The following articles and white papers discuss concepts of Control and Information System Architecture Design, and experiences in applying these concepts in
various industries.
- Industrial Information and Control Network Architectures, G. A. Rathwell.
This paper describes basic concepts of Industrial Architecture design including the "4Rs" which define criteria for structuring industrial
hardware and software. It also describes "Levels" which are similar to the PERA and ISA models, but include a separate level for "control and
interlocking devices" such as PLCs or DCS controllers.
- Use of the Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture and Methodology in Industry, Gary A. Rathwell and T.J Williams
Presented at Heron Island, Australia, September 1995, this paper describes the application of PERA in Fluor Daniel.
- PERA and GERAM -- Enterprise Reference Architectures in Enterprise
Integration, T.J. Williams and Hong Li.
This paper describes PERA's relationships to the GERAM (Generalized Enterprise Reference Architecture and Methodology) developed
by the IFAC/IFIP Task Force. It was presented to IFAC in Beijing in 1999.
- Integrated Operations Centers: Integrated Operations Centers enable centralized operations support and maintenance across multiple facilities.
