PERA Industry Classifications for Cybersecurity

PERA and ISA 62443 are both intended to address all Industries.

However, the reality is that each industry has its own special cybersecurity requirements, terminology, products, etc. Although some concepts are widely applicable across industries, it is difficult for most practitioners to understand concepts that are framed in terminology from other industries. We have therefore identified "PERA Industry Classes" that "contain:"

• Generic Industries (like Process or Manufacturing industries)
• Industries that are similar, and that may productively share PERA Cybersecurity Master Planning User Guides, and
• Industries that are unique, such as oil pipelines or pharmaceuticals.

These PERA Industry Classifications are similar to the 16 "critical infrastructure industries" currently defined by the US Department of Home Security but are much more extensive as they cover all Enterprises that contain Control and Information Systems.

The following MLM describes the PERA Enterprise Classification System in more detail.
